Analysis and Computation of Least-squares Methods for a Compressible Stokes Problem

چکیده
We develop and analyze a negative norm least-squares method for the compressible Stokes equations with an inflow boundary condition. Least-squares principles are derived for a first-order form of the equations obtained by using ω = ∇ × u and φ = ∇ ·u as new dependent variables. The resulting problem is incompletely elliptic, i.e., it combines features of elliptic and hyperbolic equations. As a result, wellposedness of least-squares functionals cannot be established using the ADN elliptic theory and so we use direct approaches to prove their norm-equivalence. The article concludes with numerical examples that illustrate the theoretical convergence rates. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 22: 000–000, 2006

A Least-Squares Finite Element Approximation for the Compressible Stokes Equations
This article studies a least-squares finite element method for the numerical approximation of compressible Stokes equations. Optimal order error estimates for the velocity and pressure in theH are established. The choice of finite element spaces for the velocity and pressure is not subject to the inf-sup condition. c © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 16: 62–70...

where the symbols ∆, ∇, and ∇· stand for the Laplacian, gradient, and divergence operators, respectively (∆u is the vector of components ∆ui); the number μ is a viscous constant; f is a given vector function; β = (U,V)t is a given C1 function. The system (1.1) may be obtained by linearizing the steady-state barotropic compressible viscous Navier-Stokes equations without an ambient flow (see [8,...
متن کاملA Projected Alternating Least square Approach for Computation of Nonnegative Matrix Factorization
Nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) is a common method in data mining that have been used in different applications as a dimension reduction, classification or clustering method. Methods in alternating least square (ALS) approach usually used to solve this non-convex minimization problem. At each step of ALS algorithms two convex least square problems should be solved, which causes high com...
متن کاملA comparative study of truly incompressible and weakly compressible SPH methods for free surface incompressible flows
In this paper, the performance of the incompressible SPH (ISPH) method and an improved weakly compressible SPH (IWCSPH) method for free surface incompressible flows are compared and analyzed. In both methods, the Navier–Stokes equations are solved, and no artificial viscosity is used. The ISPH algorithm in this paper is based on the classical SPH projection method with common treatments on soli...
متن کاملA reconstructed discontinuous Galerkin method for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations on arbitrary grids
A reconstruction-based discontinuous Galerkin (RDG) method is presented for the solution of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations on arbitrary grids. The RDG method, originally developed for the compressible Euler equations, is extended to discretize viscous and heat fluxes in the Navier-Stokes equations using a so-called inter-cell reconstruction, where a smooth solution is locally reconstr...
